Wednesday Walks

The Wednesday Group usually walks in the hills of South Wales, but we sometimes venture over the border to the Cotswolds, the Mendips, or the Malverns. In the summer months we may travel further to, for example, the Gower Peninsula, the South West Coastal Path, or the Shropshire Hills.

There is no set programme and the regular Wednesday walks are usually decided less than a week in advance. They can range from 8 miles in the winter up to 15 miles (sometimes longer) in the summer and, because we walk in the hills, the walks are generally strenuous and only suitable for strong walkers. Members take it in turn to lead the walks and new members are encouraged to lead walks.

Events & Holidays

We also organise holidays, usually mid week and usually self catering with members contributing to the meals. We often stay in Youth Hostels or Bunkhouses to keep costs to a minimum.

Glyndwr’s Way Part 2 – Organiser Derek
Tuesday 12th to Friday 15th June 2012
Having completed about one third of the Glyndwr’s Way in 2011, we will walk the middle section starting in Llanidloes and averaging nearly 12 miles per day over four days to Llanbrynmair. We have booked sole occupancy for three nights at the Braich Goch Bunkhouse near Machynlleth. We plan to complete the rest of the Way in 2013.
The cost for accommodation, travel, and food will depend on final numbers but will probably be around £130

The Hills of Mid Wales – Organiser Derek
Monday 10th to Friday 14th September 2012
Four nights based on sole occupancy of the Plas Isa Bunkhouse situated in the middle of Dolgellau and therefore very convenient for shops, pubs, and local buses.
Options include Cadair Idris, the Aran Ridge, the Rhinogs, the Tarrens, or an easier day on the Mawddach Estuary for bad weather or tired legs.. We will probably make use of local buses so bring your Welsh bus pass.
The cost for accommodation and food will depend on final numbers but will probably be in the region of £70

Walking in the French Alps – Organiser Ceridwen
Thursday 20th to Thursday 27th June 2013
Walking in the Haute Savoie region of France based in Les Carroz
Accommodation has been booked but full costs and travel details will not be available until early 2013.

Please email for more details of the Wednesday walks or any of the above holidays.
